For Reykjavík Geothermal, the new year marked the start of a new consulting project in collaboration with three other well-known entities in Iceland: the law firm BBA//Fjeldco, Verkís Engineering, and Iceland Geosurvey. The client is the Comoros Government where the project entails the preparation of the legal framework for geothermal and other renewable energy sources in Comoros. The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago just past of Africa's eastern coast.
After successful collaboration in a similar project for the Djiboutian Government, the parties decided to bid together on the Comoros project and were awarded the task late 2020. The general objective of the proposed mission is to define the general principles of organization, operation and development of the energy sector in Comoros while setting up tools to improve the legal and regulatory framework for the production, distribution and consumption of renewable energy in the short, medium and long term.
The projected completion of the project is the spring of 2021.
