Corbetti Geothermal Project reaches Effectiveness from Ethiopian Government

Since the approval of the Geothermal Proclamation Amendment by the Government of Ethiopia in May 2020, Reykjavik Geothermal is pleased to announce that the Corbetti Geothermal project has reached effectiveness! All of the project’s condition presidents have been fulfilled, and the project is ready to move forward at full steam ahead.

The Corbetti Geothermal Project is the sister project to the Tulu Moye Geothermal Project, with the aim to also develop a 150 MW geothermal power plant. This will be done in cooperation with Meridiam SAS which was shared in an earlier article, the same company involved in the Tulu Moye Geothermal Project which also reached effectiveness in December 2020. Exploratory drilling in Corbetti is expected to begin in Corbetti in Q4 2021. Ultimately, the project will generate 150 MW towards the baseload electricity needs of the Ethiopian Electricity Grid.

Reykjavík Geothermal embarks on a second consulting project with BBA//Fjeldco Law Firm, Verkís Engineering and Iceland Geosurvey

For Reykjavík Geothermal, the new year marked the start of a new consulting project in collaboration with three other well-known entities in Iceland: the law firm BBA//Fjeldco, Verkís Engineering, and Iceland Geosurvey. The client is the Comoros Government where the project entails the preparation of the legal framework for geothermal and other renewable energy sources in Comoros. The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago just past of Africa’s eastern coast.
